Kid sewing: Wizard hat for a penguin! OR, How To Sew a Fabric Cone for a Specific Size with Real, Accurate Math!!

C. had this whole idea to make a wizard hat for her penguin plushie, so I helped her make it happen! She designed it and sewed it herself. All I did was help take measurements and figure out how to cut out a fabric cone!

Penguin plush in a starry handmade wizard hat with tassels and sparkly ribbon trim, made with this tutorial: how to sew a fabric cone with real, accurate math! :)

2016-February: Paper Doll interlude!

This is not sewing, but I wanted to share these little paper dolls I made for E.  In a way it's sewing related, because I did design their outfits, ha ha!

I just drew them and glued them onto some chipboard (a hot chocolate box), made a couple outfits, and they had HIGH play value!  Gotta love it!

Their alternate dresses were cut from a gardening catalog.

These characters will very likely play a role in my fairy book!

Then I had to make a doll of baby sister!

2016-January: Beanbag Cuddly Toy

I made this little toy for E. to keep her hands busy.  She likes to fidget!  She also ended up taking it with her to bed as a little lovey.

I just stitched together some scraps of the double gauze from C's quilt, bound it in the selvedge, and loosely stuffed it with a mix of fiberfill and rice.

It was a simple thing, but she liked it a lot.

2014-December: Doll Carrier

I wanted to make a doll carrier for E. for her 4th birthday, right before her baby sister arrived!  I admit, I didn't have much of a plan beyond looking at various doll carriers online, and coming up with a design I thought would be easy to do. And it was!

The only "problem" is that she just wasn't that into it.  I had thought she could carry dolls around while I carried the new baby, but she didn't feel like it.  This is also why I can't find a photo of her actually using it!  In a sea of new baby sister photos, the neglected Mommy-made doll carrier is nowhere to be found.  That's OK; they won't like everything you make for them!

Maybe Baby Sister will play with it someday. :)
